The species:
Quercus Petraea and Quercus Robur are the botanical names of the main Oak species composing the French forests.
Traditionally used for building frameworks and roofs, wine barrel production, cabinetmaking, joinery and carpentry, doors, wall panels, tables and furniture, stairs, and parquet.
Considered in France as the noblest wood, it is the druid's sacred tree, and also the tree under which King Saint Louis was doing Justice.
It is overall abundant in State forests, well managed on long term plans for sustained forest development, with forestry rules initiated by Minister Colbert in the 17th Century, under King Louis XIV, who wanted to create a powerful navy.
Colbert could not guess at that time that 3 centuries later warships would no longer be made of wood.
These sustained forest rules still apply and make the French forest an ecological model for planet preservation.
