Botanical Name: Dalbergia Variabilis.

Origin: Guyana / Brazil.

Its name comes of course from the colour of its veining and the use that was made of it.

Indeed, specifically used in furniture marquetry in the 18th century and in particular to create flower petals.

In England, it took the name of Brazilian Tulipwood, not to be confused with its namesake the North American Tulipwood, which takes its name from its tulip-shaped flowers.

Although there is a multitude of substitutes for rosewood, however only Dalbergia Variabilis, Dalbergia Decipularis and Dalbergia Fructescens are considered in cabinetmaking as genuine rosewood.

Nowadays, rosewood is used for the renovation of antics (a must in the Louis XV style), but also for the creation of jewellery and as always in marquetry.

Rosewood is a small tree rarely exceeding 30 to 40 cm in diameter. It will take a hundred years for it to mature.

The pieces of wood taken from its trunk are most often with cracks and heart defects, the sapwood present on both sides of the heart colour wood is also unavoidable.

Rosewood is a very hard and dense wood that allows a remarkable finish, however, the work of this wood remains a challenge, the smallness of the parts and the possible buckled make it wood for confirmed users but the result is incomparable.

Product description:

Genuine wood sliced veneer sheets.

These veneers are raw without a finish or any fleece back.

The veneer surface is similar to plane wood, however, it will be preferable to forecast a light sanding after glueing.

The veneers are offered here as wood sliced sheets of one and unique thickness.

Both faces of these veneers are the same, without fleece back, without glue.

Even if the veneer's sides had been cut relatively straight, it isn't a precise parallel clipping, some veneers may have kept the decreasing shape of the tree, wider at the bottom end and narrower at the top end.

Very occasionally, some veneers sides have traces unclipped wane but our veneers are measured at the narrowest as explained in the paragraph "sizes".

As genuine natural wood, all finishing products are acceptable as long as these products are meant to be for wood usage.

The choice of finish product has to be consistent with the realisation of final usage.
